چکیده

A 61-year-old male on anticoagulant therapy underwent an endoscopic multiple colon polypectomy in our Department according to established procedures. Several days later he developed an intramural colonic hematoma, which burst into the peritoneal cavity leading to fatal intra-peritoneal hemorrhage. Herein we present the case and discuss the causative role of the anticoagulant therapy but also of the endoscopic procedure per se.

Colonic Perforation Secondary to Idiopathic Intramural Hemorrhage

Intramural colonic hemorrhage is rare and often secondary to trauma or anticoagulation therapy. Idiopathic intramural hemorrhages in the alimentary tract have rarely been reported. While several reports of spontaneous perforation of an intramural rectal hematoma have been published, no reports of spontaneous perforation in the ascending colon due to a hematoma have. Intramural hematoma of the colon after polypectomy--an unusual case occurrence.

A 43-year-old man was admitted to our hospital for polypectomy because of multiple colonic polyps. He had no history of hemorrhage or abdominal trauma, and was not being treated with anticoagulant therapy. His laboratory results, including coagulation testing, were all normal. A ball-like polyp was identified in the descending colon (●" Fig.1a) and was removed using a snare to leave a 10-mm ped...

Laboratory examination revealed the following results: hemoglobin, 9.9g/dL; platelets, 94000/μL; creatinine, 1.29mg/dL. Video capsule endoscopy following anterograde and retrograde double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) could not i...

Thickening of the pulmonary artery wall in acute intramural hematoma of the ascending aorta

BACKGROUND The occurrence of pulmonary artery obstruction in the course of acute aortic dissection is an unusual complication. The mechanism implicated is the rupture of the outer layer of the aorta and the subsequent hemorrhage into the adventitia of the pulmonary artery that causes its wall thickening and, at times, produces extrinsic obstruction of the vessel. There are no reports of this co...
